A World of One Sidedness
Authors Note: This piece is about the point of view of Adam from the book “April Morning.”

Back during the times of the Revolutionary War, being a 16 year old was tough, working around the house, pondering about the war and trying to finish school. This is the setting of the book, April Morning. Adam is 16 when the infamous Paul Revere coming riding through the town in the dead of night warning everyone of the oncoming British Army. The book April Morning in written in the perspective of Adam.

The way the book is written Adam makes you think that everyone thinks he is immature and not old enough to have opinions. One reason why everyone thinks he is not a man is because of the way he acts. He reads the bible and studies from it like most back then but he asks questions about it which was considered immoral because the mindset about the bible is that “whatever it says goes at that was final.” Also everyone thinks Adam doesn’t really have an opinion on the war because he acts younger than he is in the eyes of his parents and peers, when really he has attitudes about war and life in general.

While the point of view of Adam is important, looking through the perspective of others is standard too. Another perspective this story can be looked at is the point of view of Adam’s father. In his perspective he is just disciplining and helping him become a man. What he doesn’t realize is that he can be a little hard on him and hurt him too much. Moses Cooper (Adam’s Dad) is an argumentative person who is bullheaded and tough. So he doesn’t realize that he can be too hard on his oldest son.

While the perspective of the story and the point of view is important, looking at the other side of the equation or side is key to learning about conflicts and anything in general.
